1856 issue: Tabasco 4 reales carmine, a diagonally BISECTED EXAMPLE and 4 r. carmine QUADRISECTED EXAMPLE, used on September 24, 1859 entire letter to pay the 3 reales rate from Tabasco to Vera Cruz, tied by oval S. JUAN BAUTA. DE TABASCO datestamp (Schatzkes fig 1554) in black. A GREAT MEXICO RARITY SHOWING TWO DIFFERENT "SPLITS" OF THE SAME STAMP ON ENTIRE LETTER. WE HAVE RECORDED ONLY ONE OTHER COVER SHOWING THIS FRANKING (Ex Yates 1955 lot 264, which is also from Tabasco).
Note: A 3/4 of 4 reales stamp on cover from "Leon de Los Aldamas" was part of the Mazepa collection (Regency Stamps Dec. 2000 lot 5598) estimated at 25.000 USD "considered one of the most important first issue entires extant" and a 3/4 of 4 reales on small PIECE from Tabasco sold at David Feldman auctions (may 2005 lot 20674) for 4200 CHF.
