“Siberia”, a poem by Abraham Sutskever, with paintings by Marc Chagall, author's dedication
Famous poem, written in Vilnius in 5696 (1937). Includes seven paintings by the author’s friend Marc Chagall, who painted them especially for this poem in 5710 (1950), and were printed after three years. Artist signature in block. Yiddish.
The book opens with a handwritten dedication by author Abraham Sutskever, including his signature.
Abraham Sutskever (1913-2010), a leading Yiddish poet and Israel Prize laureate. One of the few survivors of the Vilnius ghetto, was a partisan and forest fighter. His family ended up in Siberia during his childhood. Editor of the literary quarter journal, “Di Goldene Keyt”.
