1840 Two Penny Envelope, VFU example sent from Masham via Bedale and London to Sidmouth, cancelled by two black MC's. Upon arrival the letter was redirected to Exeter, the redirection charge was underpaid with the addition of only one 1d red-brown Pl.17, also tied by a crisp black MC. On arrival the letter was endorsed 'More to Pay' and charged '2'd upon delivery, b/stamped with 'Masham/Penny Post' and Bedale, London, Sidmouth & Exeter c.d.s's for FE.5-10.1842. An extremely unusual franking combination, one of only two recorded examples of a 2d Mulready and 1d red-brown cancelled with MC's. Ex. Mayflower. BPA Cert (2007)
