A specimen banknote is one with the inscription "Specimen" on it, usually in red ink. A specimen banknote is printed generally in very limited quantities for distribution to central banks to aid in the recognition of banknotes from a country other than its own.

שטרות הדוגמה הם שטרות שמוטבע עליהם הכיתוב SPECIMEN בדיו אדום, אשר הודפסו בכל פעם שיצאה סדרה חדשה של שטרות. בנק ישראל שולח שטרות אלו לבנקים מרכזיים של מדינות שמצויות בקשרים מסחריים עם ישראל או שיש להן תיירות נכנסת מישראל, כדי שיכירו את השטרות ויוכלו לזהות חשד לזיוף.
