This catalogue contains a great selection of Australian coins including Australian Shipwrecks, Adelaide Pound, Dump, Proclamation coins, Gold Sovereigns and Half-Sovereigns, pre-decimal coins and Proofs, Error Coins, RAM , Perth Mint and NPA products. There are many highlights in the Australian Coins including Three Australian 1930 Pennies. One is graded in a VF/VF and the others are gF and aF and are Reserved at $17,000 and 16,000 and $10,000 respectively (Lots 5846, 5848 and 5847). This auction also includes a VERY RARE 1852 Adelaide Assay Office Pound Type II, Earlier die state with slight edge weakness around 3 o'clock & corresponding position on rev. Some surface mks. Underlying brilliance. VF or better. Rare. Reserve $10,000 (Lot 5423).

 

In the Australian Banknotes section includes Pre-Federation, Pre-decimal, Specimens, Decimal, Starnotes and Varieties . This sale includes a rare £100 Cerutty-Collins, bold serial numbers, suffix Z. Nice strong colours, a couple of tiny, not visible unless note is held to the light, repaired margin nicks. gFor better but looks VF. McD 69a Cat F $65,000, VF $120,000. One of the rarest Australian notes issued with only a handful known. (Lot 6678). Also in the Australian issues - £1 Collins-Allen WWI Emergency issue or Rainbow Pound last prefix. F 554209 F. Note has had considerable restoration, the paper has been strengthened, the note being stiffer & thicker than a normal note. R-20bL. F appearance. McD cat $36,000. A presentable budget example for the collector who prefers not to spend $25,000 or so on a better example. Reserve $ 7,500 (Lot 6607) .

 

World coins and banknotes, including Gold, silver and copper coins, medals and World Banknotes . In the World Coins is a GB 1687 TERTIO James II 5/-. Well struck, very slight hay marking o/w Practically as struck. Tiny natural reverse rim indentation near 16 of date (not an edge knock). Nicer than any example that has been offered for sale of at auction in recent years. Definitely a wow coin. S-3407 cat EF £4250, unpriced higher . Reserve $8,000 (Lot 7260). Also in the world banknote section is a China Central Bank of The Republic of China ND (c1923) 10 Cents (1 Hao) pr. Issued by Grand Marshal Sun Yat-sen of a self proclaimed government in Guangzhou Canton. Unlisted in catalogues, only 7-10 single notes known. This pr could be unique. A similar grade single note sold for RMB 92,000 (AUD $18,000) at Hosane Auction, Shanghai 19 Dec 2011 lot 2856 and a pair always worth considerably more. Reserve $20,000 ( Lot 7617).

This auction also includes a VERY RARE 1920 Dot above top scroll - Chocolate, practically UNC/UNC, tiny contact mk near King's ear. Without doubt one of the finest known. In the Australian Banknotes section includes Pre-Federation, Pre-decimal, Specimens, Decimal, Starnotes and Varieties . This sale includes a rare £50 Cerutty-Collins (1918) medium type prefix Y. Note has been expertly cleaned to remove ugly bank stamp & has had a central hole repaired. VF appearance & most collectable. McD cat VF $55,000. Without a doubt the cheapest example of this quality on the market. R-67c Reserve $22,000 (Lot 6400). Also in the Australian issues - WWII Hay Internment Camp 1/- banknote uncut pr of printer's proof/colour trials printed with obv & rev tete beche in 2 diff colours greens, without black printing, no denomination, date & number etc. Unsigned. Has been folded between the 2 notes, practically UNC. Exceedingly rare if not unique. Renniks type 2P. Reserve $18,000 (Lot 6263)

Tiananmen, Peoples Heroes Monument, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall & Great Hall of the People. KM-PS1 in its hand crafted original box with certificate & outer sleeve Reserve $5,000 (Lot 6531). Also in the world banknote section is a New Zealand 1967 Reserve Bank of New Zealand Wellington presentation book of the first issue of New Zealand decimal notes $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $100 sig Fleming first prefix opt SPECIMEN & punch hole cancel through signature, serials all 000000. Two of each note to show front & back. Book is signed by Governor G Wilson plus overleaf by RM Smith, AH McClintock & SR Maclennan who were part of the design committee. P-163s to 168s (12 notes). Very rare.( Lot 7338).

Good colour & edges, a dozen tiny pinholes which are only visible when held to a bright light, VF. Very rare. McD cat $58,000. Reserve $22,000 (Lot 6266). Also in the Australian Pre-federation bank issues a Bank of South Australia £1 Melbourne 1 July 1889 SPECIMEN without serials, opt SPECIMEN in red in sig panel & diagonally across front. A few pinholes UL cnr, aVF. A new discovery with large brown ONE POUND panel on front. MVR type 3d. UNIQUE. Reserve $5,000 (Lot 6142)

 

World coins and banknotes, including Gold, silver and copper coins, medals and World Banknotes. In the World Coins is a Russian 1763 Catherine II Ducat. Crowned bust right, rev crown above double-headed eagle, shield on breast. C-80. EF. Extremely Rare. Reserve $15,000 (Lot 6557). Also in the world banknote section is a South Africa Boer War - Siege of Mafeking. 1 Shillings January 1900, "Issued by the Authority of Colonel R.S.S. Baden-Powell", with embossed "Bechuanaland Protectorate / One Penny" embossed duty stamp, with numbered counterfoil at left, showing it came from a special booklet (most of these notes were issued in stapled pads without any counterfoil). Superb fresh UNC in absolutely pristine condition. P-S651a cat US$1500++ plus large premium for the intact counterfoil. This originates from a partial booklet ex John Ineson collection, and previously no examples with intact counterfoils were recorded. In any case any Mafeking notes extremely rare in such high grade - the previous example we had from same source sold for $2800 + commission in our auction 328. 2016 Ceremuga certificate of authenticity. Reserve $2,300 ( Lot 7273).

With black h/s "ISSUED BY PAYMASTER B.S.UPINGTON" at top & h/s of the Border Scout arms at left with jackal in circular frame & crown above, manuscript text at centre "received from OCBS the sum of two pounds for pay J Birkbeck Major OC".
